Uganda Youth Football Associations (UYFA) have postponed this year’s National UYFA Chenga Championship to January 2024.
The 2023 edition which is the second of its kind, was due to be held on 12th – 17th December at Mbarara High School, Mbarara DFA, Western Region.
According to the document released Wednesday, 6th December 2023, Uganda Youth Football Associations apologised to the public for any inconveniences caused and confirmed the new dates.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are unable to proceed with the championship as planned. It has been a difficult decision to make, but we had no option but to postpone this championship.”
“We are truly sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment this may cause you. I want to assure you that this was not an easy decision to make, and we would have much loved to seal off the competition before the year ends.”
“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.”
“A decision has been taken, and the championship has been rescheduled to 15th – 20th January 2024 at the same venue. We will keep you informed of any updates in line to the same”.
The National UYFA Chenga Championship was launched in 2022 as B13/G13 National Championship by the UYFA Executive Committee, and the Inuagural National Championship was played between 16th – 21st August 2022 at Nkoma Senior Secondary School, Mbale.
For proper branding and identity, the UYFA Emergency committee meeting held on 22nd November 2023 proposed and approved a new name for the championship, UYFA CHENGA Championship.
Under the new brand, UYFA Chenga Championship, the championship will be played annually by children (Both Girls and Boys) aged 11 – 13 years.
Chenga is a Kiswahili word that refers to dribbling.
CBI from Kumi are Girls defending champions whilst, Sparta 09 from Rubaga won the Boys first edition.
