After a successful day two of the Pian Upe, Lokichar Game Reserves tour, state minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Hon Martin Mugarra Bahinduka is confident Pian Upe and Lokichar reserves have the potential to become some of Uganda’s top tourist destination.

“Pian Upe is one of the largest Game Reserves in the East African region and our protectionism and conversation approach is gradually changing it’s ability as a destination.

Comprising of numerous wildlife species ranging from the cheetahs, ostriches, roan antelopes, zebras, leopards among many other animals

The Game also has unique flora, fauna and breathtaking landscapes patent to form the beauty of the area.

This area has had less attention because of its recent challenges of insecurity, raids and poor road network which is now history and it’s now time for Karamoja to shine.

I’m thankful to the involvement of Breathtaking Uganda, Miss Uganda Foundation and a number of influencers for coming on board to promote the sector”. State minister for tourism Hon. Martin Mugarra Bahinduka.

The Minister moved with a delegation of over 60 people on November 30 for a four-day tour dubbed Explore Pian Upe and Lokichar Reserves, which aimed at promoting Karamoja sub-region’s tourism potential.

He further threw light onto the significance of the trip to the area highlighting the achievements.

“Moving with people who have great influence in the public domain was a strategy thought about and its important to note that this trip has awaken many to switch focus to this region as a destination.

The trip has guided us onto the areas to improve and indeed it has been a good project for bench-marking”. Hon. Bahinduka added.

The trip which was organized by Breathtaking Uganda, featured the minister himself, Miss Uganda, Miss Tourism Queens and travel enthusiasts including a famous music producer Washington, and many other tour operating companies.

The group travelled through Jinja, Mbale to Pian Upe headquarters where a night evening barbecue, campfire, entertainment and retirement at leisure was held.

The second day was a game drive. Inside the Reserve, there was the famous Morukunyakun rock habiting a beautiful cave where breakfast was served in the wilderness.

Honorable Minister and the beauty queens engaged in charity activities with special reference to the community near Pian Upe headquarters, “The Karamoja Children’s Charity, a charity” in Okudut.

Cultural immersion experience of dancing and understanding how people generally live and interaction was on the menu card during the visit to Okudut.

The participants on the tour were immersed into the Karimojong traditions, lifestyle and way of life, eating authentic Karimojong based meals, drinks, dressing in their cultural dressings, listening to Karimojong folksongs and tales and participating in their dances, Rare, exciting sightings.

Pian Upe and Lokichar wildlife reserves offer some of the rarest opportunities to see game like cheetahs, ostriches, roan antelopes, zebras, leopards among many other animals.

 

The unique flora, fauna and breathtaking landscapes patent to these reserves and this region in Uganda form the beauty of the area.
