At the opening of the 2024 Secondary Schools Sports calendar, football enthusiasts are set for one of the fiercest derby as Jinja Secondary School will lock horns with Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA).
The Jinja Derby is set for tomorrow, Saturday the 27th January afternoon at Kakindu Stadium in Jinja City.
Jinja SS beat Westville 1-0 in the first semi-final to reach final.
Lawrence Owiti scored the only goal of the game to inspire Jinja SS to their Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Elite Games final.
In the second semi-final, JIPRA convincingly beat Kawempe Muslim Secondary School 3-0.
Swabir Mpasa, Nicholas Mutebi and captain James Jerieko scored the three goals.
With a strong group stage finish of a 3-0 victory against Westville, JIPRA stormed semi-finals as group B leaders to book a date with Kawempe Muslim.
James Jerieko was the day’s hero for JIPRA with a hat-trick.
Kawempe progressed to the last four as group A runners up following a 2-all draw against host and group leaders Jinja SS.
Alvin Mutiibwa, Gatloak Boum scored for Kawempe Muslim whilst Foozi Hakim netted a brace for Jinja SS.
Meanwhile, money bags Bukedea Comprehensive won 4-0 against Jinja College. Despite the win, Bukedea saw exit from the tournament after their third place finish.
In the semi-final, Jinja SS lock horns with Westville and JIPRA will face Kawempe Muslim in the last semi-final.
