Tik-tak styled Della Torre Football Academy and El Cambio Academy dominated the individual awards at the recently concluded Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA) national championship.
Concluded on Saturday 20th January 2023 after a one week show, the championship came to an end as Sparta 09 and El Cambio were crowned winners in boys and girls respectively.
After the championship, Jessy Ssekandi was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
Too quick, skilled with a high ball sense and intelligence, Ssekandi is a future star.
His ability to score goals and create for other is exceptional.
Despite his side being knocked out of the tournament at the semi-final, Jessy Ssekandi was directly involved in seven goals for Della Torre.
He scored three and assisted four times in six games.
His team mate forward Joshua Musinguzi was the tourney’s top scorer with seven (7) goals and two assists.
The lethal forward exhibited a high degree of vision for goal. Too confident and calm in the area with a great work rate, Muwanguzi is another name to save for future .
Ashiraf Obua was another exciting talent at the national championship.
Featuring for the tournament’s first runners up Summer Kids, the custodian was second to none between the sticks.
His (Obua) heroic moments throughout the tournament carried his side to the final.
The command he has, the shot stopper’s ability to organize the team, game reading and initiating play make him a rare character.
In the girls category, the MVP was immaculate Acen. Like her sisters Sylvia Kabene and Moreen Kitimbo of St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana, Acen is another goal poacher and Uganda’s future asset.
Despite scoring, Acen is a rare skilled player, a creator and a play and match maker.
It’s always entertainment to watch Acen play all evening dribbling and delivering at anytime, any cost.
Patricia Tendo of Kick It Soccer Academy was the top scorer.
The left, right footed gigantic forward netted five (5) times to beat competition from immaculate Acen who score 4 goals.
Deborah Babirye (Kick It) was the tourney’s best goalkeeper.
